Module Two – Chapter Six

PATTERNING OF FABRICS USING COLD WATER DYES AND FABRIC PAINTS

Shibori Methods using dyes

I have never done anything involving dying and so this was completely new to me. But I thoroughly enjoyed it and was pleased with my first results. I used Black Procion Dye and did hand stitching to gather the white cotton fabric as described in the notes.

Monoprinting using fabric paints and acrylic paints

I did these samples on the Gelli Plate with acrylic paint mixed with a medium. They are similar to the paper samples but I think the amount of paint I put on the Gelli Plate was better for these samples. I did double prints on some which are obviously the more faded examples.  Again I really enjoyed doing these. I used various “implements” to create the patterns. The last one I cut some strips off before I realised I hadn’t scanned it!
